Are expensive pantyhose worth the money?

As I wear pantyhose most every day I have been wondering if the department store brands were really that much better then drug store brands. Over the last couple of days I wore Donna Karan and today I happened to wear Sheer Energy and if anything I think that they are at least as good, if not better plus they are only $5 while the DK are close to $20. Am I missing something? Are the fancier brands worth the money?|||Pantyhose 101:

If the DK was more sheer than the L’eggs Sheer Energy, it is likely to be more fragile.

If the DK has less Spandex than L’eggs Sheer Energy (which have 20 % Spandex in the legs and 12 % Spandex in the Panty), then the DK will be even more fragile.

L'eggs Sheer Energy are a truly outstanding product. You can quite easily spend 4 times as much and get a product that is inferior to L’eggs Sheer Energy.

Many years ago, Consumer Reports wrote up pantyhose. On two different surveys, conducted years apart, L’eggs Sheer Energy came out as the double-blind favorite of the women who participated in both studies. L’eggs Sheer Energy beat out Givenchy Round the Clock and many other expensive department store brands for comfort, fit, and longevity.

Hanes Silk Reflections are more fragile than L’eggs Sheer Energy. Victoria’s Secret pantyhose, “Body by Victoria”, seem to be a little bit sturdier than Hanes Silk Reflections, but since they are more sheer and have less spandex than L’eggs Sheer Energy, they are also more fragile.

HUE is higher end brand from Kayser-Roth, the folks who make No Nonsense. They are available in department stores in the $7.00-$15.00 range. While the No Nonsense brand keeps their prices low by adding spandex to their pantyhose in tiny amounts or not at all, the higher end HUE brand have much more Spandex. But at $7.00-$15.00 vs. $3.00, you are paying for that extra quality.

Wolford and Fogal pantyhose might be superior to L’eggs Sheer Energy, but since the cheapest styles of both brands start at $40.00 a pair, they had darn well better be superior to L’eggs Sheer Energy!

|||Sometime the more expensive hose have a better feel and comfort to them and last a bit longer, but as most women know, the more expensive the hose, the more likely you're going to accidentally put a nail through them anyway just to spite you. Tights on the other hand ar a whole different story. The cheap ones snag easily, fall down more often and just plain don't last as long. Whereas pricier hose tend to fit and feel better as well as hold up to more abuse. I prefer HUE brand tights, which also makes no-nonsense pantyhose, which tend to be pretty damn good for the low price their hose are...|||I would think so in general. It is definitely worth it to spend a bit of money on good pantyhose. The rewards are great. After all you get what you pay for. But there being so many kinds of pantyhose it is not really necessary to always buy the most expensive ones. Often one pays for the name then. An example I find Wolford. Lots of people rave about them, but most of them I have tried I found rather disappointing. In the middle price range there are also some very good ones. I have been wearing Philippe Matignon Miro15 a lot. I found them fantastic and not too expensive, and a real pleasure to wear on a daily basis. But it is best to stay away from the very cheap stuff, as they usually don’t fit very well and don’t feel good at all. It also depends on what you like personally. I like sheer to waist best and no thicker than15 denier. There are some very good on line merchants, like shapings.com, that have a huge selection and definitely something for everybody’s taste, also in the middle price range. Very good pantyhose to be had there. Hope this helped.|||Hi Nicole,

I think you'll find that the more expensive ones are somewhat better in both quality and comfort. I prefer Hanes Silk Reflections myself. They are very comfortable and feel nice and silky. And they are only like 6 or 7 bucks. You should check www.onehanesplace.com - they have "slightly imperfect" stock that is pretty cheap and I've never been able to tell the difference between those and the ones in the store - they seem just a good.|||I think that they are absolutely worth the money! I find a huge difference in the sheerness, the softness, the look, and the fit of Donna Karan over L'eggs Sheer Energy. The L'eggs are OK, but Donna Karans are amazing. They are far and away my favorite, and well worth the money!|||From what I am told as my wife wears them only for church in colder weather, it depends on the person. She complains about the waistband like all others. She prefers the higher-end ones from Wolford but u cant have champagne taste on a beer budget. Check out the websites such as www.mytights.com. They have reviews and links and you can get high end pantyhose for much less.|||you know the saying you get what you pay for! but you also dont want to pay for the name since noone knows the difference. i wouldnt buy cheap ones but i would spend up to 8-10 on panty hose and be sure that they dont rip easy and wash well. but i would never pay 20.00 for panthose that just tear up after a few uses anyway! |||For the most part I agree with courtneyrhodeisland. Everyday go with Hanes or Leggs.....for a special night on the town go with a nice pair of stockings to feel more sexy.

Good Luck!!
