What is the real definition of designer clothes.?

I use to think designer clothes were clothes from brands with a name like Ralph Lauren, Tommy hilfiger, Donna Karan or Armani. You know with the persons name, but since i been visiting Y!A people also call stores like Abercrombie, Hollister, AE designer clothes.

Is designer clothes high-end stuff like armani, or is designer clothes just any store with a good name and is popular?|||You were right with your initial definition. Designer clothing comes from a fashion designer; these people have runway shows, but they also sell readymade items (i.e. Armani Exchange, Tommy Hilfiger's stores, etc.).

Stores like Abercrombie are mass-market but don't have a single designer's vision. They are merely popular stores.|||DEFINATELY HIGH END

i don't know why anyone would call a place like hollister or abercrombie designer

designer is armani, louis vuitton, chanel, the list goes on

but NOT abercrombie|||IDk but it is cheap :D|||Designer clothes are generally very expensive and/or casual and nowadays, stores like Abercombie fit that description. But designer clothes are also world renowned, so I don't consider those Abercombie, Hollister, AE to be "designer." Plus, it's only really the younger people that shop there because the clothes are "cute" and more affordable, and their friends wear them. Frankly, I don't understand why you would wear something with the seller's name plastered over your shirt, and now, pants so that you can walk around like a billboard advertisement.|||basically, abercrombie and hollister are a type of fake designer clothes. i have no idea why people say its designer...
